Dog-Friendly Finds | Winkworth Arboretum

Hi everyone!

I'd just like to preface this, by saying that all of the photos in this post were taken by the incredibly talented Amy at Aura Photographs, and she has so kindly given me permission to use them.

The best part about dog blogging for me, has been all the wonderful friends I'm making along the way. It's even better when those friends are fairly local, and we can meet up for play dates! When Emily from Adventures of Doodles asked if I'd like to go to Winkworth Arboretum with her and Amy of Silly Tilly Poodle, I of course said yes. I absolutely love exploring new National Trust properties, and I thought it'd be great to get all the dogs back together again.

I'd never been to an arboretum before, so I wasn't sure what to expect or what the walking routes would be like. To be on the safe side, I took Winnie's carry bag with me; we'd been to the beach the day before, and her little legs definitely couldn't have dealt with another full afternoon of walking! She travelled in style for half the afternoon, and then she was able to stretch her legs and do a little bit of modelling for Emily's business Devil Dood Designs

The whole setting was beautiful, but undoubtedly the best part were the thousands of bluebells. I've honestly never seen so many in one place, they were like a carpet! I'm so thankful to Amy for snapping some photos of my two in the flowers, especially Archie, whose character she captured perfectly. We headed first to a gorgeous meadow so the pooches could have a run, and the bigger dogs made good use of the streams along the way!

We had an absolutely lovely afternoon, and I think Archie will be lovesick over Rhapsody for a good long while, bless him! Thank you again to the girls for a fab play date, and to Amy for all the beautiful photos.

Dog-Friendly Finds | The Tenth Hole, Southsea

Hello everyone, happy #woofwoofwednesday!

This evening's post is the final installment from our recent weekend away, and this time we're doing a little review of The Tenth Hole, a tearoom and nine-hole golf course in Southsea. This is another spot recommended by our friend Bernie and his Mum, you can find their post here. When my boyfriend said he fancied playing a round of golf on the Monday morning, I remembered Mr Beau Jangle's post and knew the perfect spot! We decided to head there early, to avoid the rush, and arrived for brunch at about 10am.

Thankfully for us, as we were visiting on a Monday morning, the café was reasonably quiet. They have a lovely outdoor seating area with water bowls and treats for dogs, so we decided to sit outside and make the most of the sunshine on our last day away. Bernie's mum tells me that the cakes there are absolutely amazing, but as we were heading to the beach afterwards and I'd given up most sweet things for Lent, I opted for the full english breakfast and a pot of tea. It was absolutely delicious, and I was served really quickly. I'll let you in on a secret though... I'm such a fussy eater and I hate herby sausages, so the dogs got the sausage all to themselves! The staff were all friendly and welcoming, even when Archie and Winnie started grumbling at each other for the last piece of sausage.. what an embarrassment they are. After breakfast I enjoyed a few more cups of tea and snuggles with the dogs, whilst Will played his round of golf.

The Tenth Hole is in an ideal spot; a short walk from other attractions (fab if you're visiting with kids, there are beautiful gardens and play parks) and of course, the beach. We had a stroll along the sea front after breakfast, and Archie even had his first swim in the sea! To end the morning we walked through the flower gardens back to the car, stopping for ice cream and a drink at the model village on the way.

Huge thanks to the lovely Bernie and his Mum for giving us recommendations of where to visit on our weekend away, it was fab to enjoy new dog-friendly spots. Don't forget to check out their blog here, and give The Tenth Hole a like on Facebook here!

Sunshine, Daisies, Butter Mellow... | Winnie's Wardrobe

Name that film?!

Hi all,

Today's post is all about Winnie's favourite colour, yellow! Well, I say Winnie's favourite colour... more like my favourite colour to put Winnie in. I thought I'd start up a new little series called Winnie's Wardrobe, where I can talk about all the super cute bits and bobs she's wearing at the moment. I don't know about anyone else, but I find it far harder to get cute accessories for Archie. Even in my own etsy shop, we sometimes find it difficult to gather fabrics that cater for all you handsome fellas.

Yellow is definitely one of my favourite colours for Winnie. It totally pops against her black fur, and just looks so lovely on her! I thought I'd share some of my current favourite yellow pieces.

Watts in the Box Jumper:

So I know the weather has warmed up, and that the dogs don't really need jumpers at this time of year... but as soon as I saw that Watts in the Box needed testers for their new dachshund knits, I jumped at the chance! This jumper is so beautifully made, with an adjustable tummy strap, and is perfect for those slightly chillier spring days. It's the loveliest sunshine yellow, and looks adorable on Miss Winnie. You can order your own hand-knitted jumper here, you may even spot Winnie modelling on the website!

Chloe Suzanne Designs Bandana:

I'm sorry to shamelessly plug my own etsy shop, but my current favourite bandana for Winnie is this gorgeous yellow, floral one. It was actually part of our autumn line last year, however I feel like the floral design translates well into spring and summer also. This fabric is buttery smooth, comfy for Winnie to wear, and a fab bandana for mixing and matching with other accessories. If you're interested in nabbing one for yourself, you can find it here in our shop for just £3!

Bramble and Friends Bow Tie:

This gorgeous yellow bow tie is the stuff of spring dreams! I won't ramble about this one as I recently wrote a post about my Bramble and Friends order, which you can find here. All you need to know is that the quality is fabulous, and that I will absolutely be ordering more!

Koko Collective Collar & Lead Set:

This is another one I won't ramble about, as I also wrote a blog post on this gorgeous set! Koko Collective make beautiful, ethical dog accessories in India, using recycled sari fabric and inner tubes. When they contacted us at the beginning of this year and asked if we'd like to review a couple of sets, I of course decided on this beautiful yellow for Winnie. It looks absolutely stunning on her, and is a perfect addition to Winnie's wardrobe year-round.

So there you have it! Our favourite yellow pieces this spring. I hope you like the idea of this new series; do you have a favourite colour to dress your dog in?!

Dog-Friendly Finds | Bow Wows at No. 7 Café

Hello! Happy Saturday everyone, I hope you're enjoying the lovely long weekend.

Today's post is going to be a little insight into our trip to Bow Wows at No. 7, a dog-friendly boutique and café at Port Solent marina. It's situated within a group of independent shops and restaurants at a site called "The Trading Post", which was full of activity on such a sunny morning. We visited the café on our recent weekend away, after it was recommended to us by our lovely friend Bernie, who you will know from some of our past posts! His Mum has also written a blog post about Bow Wows, which you can find here

Bow Wows is the perfect spot for a crazy dog lady: tea, cake and lots of things to spoil your pooch with? What could be better?! When we arrived there were a few people already enjoying a cuppa with their dogs, so I couldn't take as many photos as I hoped (didn't want to disturb them!) but I think you can see how many lovelies there were to browse through. Doggy beer, ice cream, bandanas, bows, jumpers, toys, treats... they had everything you could possibly want, including Easter goodies! Of course, I picked up a few bits for my two, which I'm sure you'll see in future posts.

As you would expect from a dog-friendly café, there were several other dogs present, including the owner's two lovely doggies. I was a little worried that ours would kick off, as they can be so nervous, but actually they were as good as gold! With Winnie, I really attribute much of this to the new carry bag we bought for her before our trip. It seems to make her feel much more secure, in situations that would normally have her barking like mad. She snuggles herself up and is quite happy to just sit and observe! We had a lovely visit, and I'm so glad we went; we'll definitely be going back during the summer.

The marina is just a short drive from the beach, so we headed there afterwards for a picnic and walk in the sun. The dogs got lots of treats, including a Snuffles dog beer that we'd purchased at Bow Wows! It was another lovely day, just what we needed to kickstart the Easter holidays.

Have you been to Bow Wows at No. 7? Do you think it's the sort of place you'd like to visit? Let us know, and don't forget to give them a like on Facebook!

Dog-Friendly Travel | Hayling Island

Hi all!

We've just arrived home from a lovely long weekend in Hayling, and I thought I'd share a few photos from our trip with you. I spent so much time on the island as a child, it feels almost like a home away from home for my family, and my parents own a fab caravan on one of the sites. Whenever possible we go on little visits to the coast, and it's no different now that Will and I have the dogs. We packed so much into the weekend that I'm going to split it up into a few posts... here's a peek at our Saturday!

We headed to the van on Friday evening, so it was too late to do anything other than pick up a chinese takeaway for tea, and head off to bed. On Saturday, we decided to stay on the island and take the dogs for a long walk; I had found a new route during a recent dachshund meet-up, so I knew some fairly quiet spots that would be a good place for Archie to have a run. The dogs had such a lovely time, it was so heart-warming to see Archie in particular sprinting along and really burning off some energy. Winnie had a mix and match of accessories on bless her, find them here: bow, collar, lead, bandana.

We had a lovely leisurely stroll for about an hour, before stopping at the Inn on the Beach for a drink. The weather was absolutely beautiful, and it was just blissful to sit and enjoy a lemonade in the sun... especially with the sea views! You can see in the photo above how much Archie has changed since his first visit there 8 months ago, I can't believe how little he was. Look at his little floppy ears! There always lots of dogs relaxing at the Inn on the Beach with their humans, and our two appreciated the numerous water bowls that are dotted around on the terrace.

After the looooong walk back to the car, we were all in need of a nap! We relaxed at the van for a little while before heading out to dinner at the Barley Mow with my brother and his girlfriend, who were also staying in Hayling for the weekend. All in all, it was a lovely day! Pretty much everywhere in Hayling is reasonably dog-friendly, and I love bringing the pooches along with us.

Have you been to Hayling Island? Let us know, and keep an eye out for the next installment of the weekend!

Bow Tie Love | Bramble & Friends

Happy Woof Woof Wednesday everyone!

I received some seriously happy mail today, so I just had to snap some photos and share them straight away. I haven't been able to spoil the dogs for a few months, so on payday I decided to pick up some bow ties from Bramble and Friends. I'd followed them on instagram for a little while and had fallen in love with their tweed bow ties, so when I spied a discount code on a fellow daxie's instagram, I knew it was time to order!

Just look at those beautiful colours! I'm thrilled with the quality of them; they sit nicely on the collar, (I HATE when bow ties droop!) they hold their shape and just feel so very luxurious. I don't think it'll be long before I add some more to our collection, and I have some leads sitting in my basket too!

I'm sorry this is a short post, I just had to share these beautiful bows. I'm off to browse their website... again!

Monthly Round-Up | March 2017

Hello all! Happy Sunday.

I thought I'd do a little round-up post for March, as we were absent from the blog for much of it. There isn't any particular reason for this, it was just a very busy term at work (I'm a teaching assistant) and we didn't get out and about as much as usual. I thought it might be fun to recap some of the main happenings in March.

My Etsy Shop Reopened!

My etsy shop (where we sell dog bandanas!) was closed for a few months after Christmas, whilst we gathered new fabrics and worked on new Spring stock. We still have some of these beautiful patterns left, and you can currently get 30% off with code APRILFOOL at checkout. It would mean so much to me if you'd head over to the shop (which you can find here) and check it out; we have tie on and slide-on designs, in a few different sizes.

Archie Turned One!

It was Archie's first birthday on the 16th March! I know, I know... I can't believe I didn't write a special birthday post for Archie at the time. It was all a little bit hectic; I was working, and then I went off on a crafting retreat the day after his birthday, so it all just escaped me. Plus, to keep it fresh, his birthday cake arrived the day before his birthday, so that didn't give me much time to squeeze a photoshoot AND blog post in before I went away. The cake was from Arton & Co and we were really impressed with it. Both dogs thoroughly enjoyed it and Archie had a lovely birthday walk too. I can't believe he's already one, it feels like yesterday that he came into our lives.

Our Trip to Yorkshire

Last weekend we headed off to Yorkshire for a weekend by the sea, and we reviewed the dog-friendly Ox Pasture Hall Hotel; you can find the post here. It was our first trip with both dogs, and we had a lovely time but it was certainly eventful! I've definitely learnt some dos and don'ts when it comes to travelling with Winnie in particular, and will be putting them into practise when we visit our family's caravan next weekend. Archie was such an angel as a puppy that travelling with him was no bother, but now he's learnt all Winnie's naughty habits, we have two monkeys on our hands!

So there we have it, a little March round-up. I hope you're having a lovely weekend, and that April brings you lots of fun adventures!
